How to do Fasting?

Fasting in Islam is very simple. The only fasting which is mandatory for every Muslim, no food and no drink, is in Ramadan month, for one month. The fasting starts from the beginning of subuh or fajr prayer and ends when maghrib prayer starts.

"O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous." (Quran, Al-Baqarah 183)

Every deeds done by a Muslim will be rewarded (quantified and manage by the angels) as long as the intention is for Allah blessing. However, fasting is very special since the quantity of Allah's reward, only Allah knows.

"Every deed of the son of Adam is for him, except fasting. It is for Me, and I shall reward for it."

From a hadith by Bukhari, Muslim, Ibnu Majah, Ahmad, Ibnu Khuzaimah, and Ibnu Hibban, Muhammad (peace be upon Him) said:

Fasting has its own heaven or paradise door called Ar-Rayyan. Only Muslim who do fasting will go through it at the judgement day.

"Indeed, in Paradise, there is a gate called Ar-Rayyan, which will be entered on the Day of Judgment by those who fast, and no one else will enter it. It will be said, 'Where are those who fasted?' So, they will stand up, and no one will enter it except them. When they have entered, the gate will be closed, and no one else will enter through it."

From a hadith by Bukhari, Muslim, At Tirmidzi and Ibnu Majah, Muhammad (peace be upon Him) said:
